Microplastics are everywhere — in water, food, and air. Scientists warn that these tiny particles accumulate in our bodies over the years, leading to hormonal imbalances and inflammatory conditions. Unfortunately, it turns out that one of its sources is also instant tea. Research conducted at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona showed that many tea bags release huge amounts of microplastics during brewing. Products made from various materials: cellulose, nylon, and polypropylene were tested. The results are alarming — nylon releases over 8 million microplastic particles per milliliter, cellulose — 135 particles, and polypropylene as much as 1.2 billion! It’s as if we regularly consumed plastic comparable to 10 credit cards a year. Dietitian Ana Jedrej, commenting on these findings, warns against consuming tea in bags. In her opinion, it is worth completely eliminating it from the diet. Microplastics are becoming an integral part of our reality, but we can still limit their consumption by avoiding products that contain them. The expert emphasizes that although we do not have an influence on everything, we should act where it is possible. Tea in bags is one of those places.
