Raifeisen Digital Bank AG, a subsidiary of Raifeisen Bank International AG, has announced a significant change for its customers in Romania. Starting from March 2025, the bank will cease its operations in the Romanian market, and the closure process will begin on March 1, 2025. This decision is part of the Raifeisen Group’s strategy to simplify its business structure and focus on developing activities in Poland.
Raifeisen representatives explained that this measure was taken after a careful and lengthy analysis of the situation and is part of the bank’s ongoing efforts to optimize its services. «The desire to simplify the business structure and to fully focus on growth in our main market in Poland» is the main reason for this change, according to Raifeisen officials.
However, the Group’s activity in Romania will not cease, as Raifeisen Bank Romania and its subsidiaries will continue to represent the banking institution in the country. «This decision is part of our ongoing efforts to optimize our services,» they added.
Despite the closure of Raifeisen Digital Bank, customers will not be significantly affected, as «we will not apply any special procedure for migrating customers to Raifeisen Bank Romania,» bank representatives emphasized. All Raifeisen Digital Bank customers will have the opportunity to withdraw money from their accounts, and the account closure process will be managed individually, with detailed communications to each customer.
For customers who will not be able to withdraw money within the established deadline, Raifeisen Digital Bank will establish a special procedure to allow them to do so in accordance with legal regulations. «For each customer, a separate process will be established with personalized communication,» bank officials explained.
