Potted flowers add coziness to a home, and some plants are even beneficial for health, as they purify the air and enhance bodily functions. However, there are also plants that are highly undesirable to keep in an apartment. One such plant is dieffenbachia, which is quite commonly found in many homes. Despite being present in almost every second apartment, dieffenbachia is dangerous due to its toxic sap, which is released from broken stems. Contact with this sap on the mucous membranes of the mouth or eyes can cause burns. A similar effect is produced by the sap of azaleas, but the consequences of this substance entering the body can be far more severe. Nausea, burning sensations, and excessive salivation are just a few of the effects an uncareful azalea owner may face. In some cases, the toxic sap of this plant can even lead to death.
