A study conducted by researchers at the University of Medicine in Bucharest has shown that women with wider hips are at a higher risk of developing osteoarthritis. The main cause is the overuse of joints, especially in the pelvic and knee areas. «Wide hips create additional pressure on the joints, which over time leads to the wear and tear of cartilage tissue and limits mobility,» explains Dr. Andrea Chobanu, a leading orthopedic specialist.
The study also showed that women with a body mass index higher than the norm are exposed to even more risks due to the additional load on the locomotor apparatus. To minimize the risk, experts recommend paying attention to strengthening the muscles of the pelvis and hips through specific exercises. It is also important to monitor weight and have regular medical check-ups to identify any potential problems in the early stages.
