Layar Merusak Otak? Ilmuwan Akhirnya Mengungkap Kebenaran!

In recent years, the term «brain rot» has gained popularity to describe the impact of digital technology on humans. Many are concerned that constant gadget use reduces concentration, worsens memory, and even lowers IQ. However, scientific research does not support these fears. A large study in 2023 involving 12,000 children found no negative effects of screen time on brain function. Scientists found no changes in connectivity between brain regions and no evidence that children’s conditions worsened due to technology.

Nevertheless, society continues to believe that technology harms mental health. Many publications are based on assumptions, not facts. For example, one of the most famous theories about IQ decline due to email turned out to be false—just part of a marketing campaign. Another study linking increased smartphone use with deteriorating mental health is also misleading. The fact that two events occur simultaneously does not mean one causes the other.

Moreover, technology also has positive impacts. Many people with fast internet access feel happier and more socially active. Children who use technology for learning show better academic results and are more prepared to face the modern world. Scientists emphasize that what matters is not the amount of time spent in front of the screen, but how that time is used. If someone is just scrolling through social media aimlessly, it may indeed reduce concentration. But if the internet is used for learning or communication, there are no negative impacts.

Thus, claims that technology damages our brains are not supported by scientific facts. Instead, they are more a result of panic and fear of new things. The most important thing is to use technology wisely: not to let devices control our lives, but to use them to our advantage.
