Generalul Florian Coldea în Fața Justiției: Încredere sau Scepticism?

Florian Coldea, the former head of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), stated on Monday, May 27, that he has «complete trust in justice». He made this statement when he presented himself to the police as part of the obligations set by the judicial control measure. He also mentioned that he will not provide any further details «until the investigation is completed».

Journalists awaited Coldea on Monday at the police headquarters where he was required to present himself during the judicial control. «I have complete trust in justice», he affirmed. When journalists insisted for more comments, he replied: «I will not make any other comments until the investigation is completed. I respect the press’s position to be interested in this public interest subject, but for now, please understand me. Justice is done by other institutions. It’s not the time, there are hearings, it’s the criminal prosecution phase. I assure you, as I have promised every time, that I will provide a correct, coherent point of view, after we clarify what it’s all about», said Coldea.

Coldea, his lawyer Doru Trăilă, and a fourth person, Dan Tocaci, Coldea’s driver, were placed under judicial control on bail last week for «committing influence peddling offenses, the form of criminal participation being authorship and complicity», announced the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) through a statement, without explicitly mentioning their names.

The DNA provided the first information in this case, without invoking any of the names of those involved, the two SRI generals being identified as businessmen. The whistleblower claimed that Dumbravă asked him to pay lawyer Doru Trăilă a fee of 70.0 euros, much higher than those practiced in Romania, to obtain a suspended sentence in court.

Cătălin Hideg, who has a four-year prison sentence, following an investigation conducted by the European Prosecutor’s Office, claimed that he was told that Florian Coldea is «the only one in Romania who has the necessary levers to solve» his criminal case.
