Românii vor fi notificați automat despre expirarea documentelor

Romanians who have essential documents such as identification cards, passports, or driver’s licenses will soon receive good news. A legislative proposal that is currently under discussion will enable them to be automatically notified by SMS or email 90 days before the expiration of these vital documents.

The initiative, which resembles previous measures taken to alert drivers about the impending expiration of their road taxes, is meant to help reduce the number of cases where individuals forget or postpone renewing their essential documents. Through these notifications, citizens will be encouraged to take timely action to renew their documents and avoid any legal issues that might arise from expired documents.

«Given the fast pace of everyday life, citizens can forget or delay the renewal of their personal documents. This law proposes a warning system to notify citizens enough time before their documents expire, allowing them to act in a timely manner to avoid any legal noncompliance,» explain the initiators of the legislative project.

Similar provisions have already been implemented in other European countries, such as the United Kingdom and Moldova, where citizens receive similar notifications via SMS, email, or other communication methods of their choice.

If the project becomes law, notifications for the expiration of documents will be sent automatically via SMS or email. If authorities do not have the necessary information to send electronic notifications, they will be sent by mail to the last known address or residence of the citizen.
