Az intimitásfüggőség sötét oldala: mikor válik veszélyessé?

Intimacy addiction is a progressively worsening disorder characterized by compulsive thoughts and behaviors related to intimacy. Like all addictions, it increasingly impacts the individual and their environment over time. Those suffering from this often feel an uncontrollable desire for intimacy, which can have severe consequences in their private lives and social relationships.

In some cases, the addiction manifests in compulsive masturbation or excessive consumption of pornographic content, while in others it can manifest in illegal activities such as exhibitionism, voyeurism, obscene phone calls, or even violent acts. According to Dr. Michael Herkov, symptoms of intimacy addiction include compulsive desire for intimacy, frequent relationships with multiple partners, and excessive time spent seeking intimacy.

Those affected often neglect their professional and personal obligations as the desire for intimacy overrides other aspects of their lives. They can spend hours browsing pornographic content, compulsively masturbating, while pushing their family, work, and social relationships to the background. Despite being aware of the negative consequences of their behavior, they are unable to control it, and attempts to quit lead to irritability and frustration.

If you recognize yourself in three or more symptoms, you may be suffering from intimacy addiction. Experts point out that addicts organize their lives around intimacy, just as drug addicts do around substance use. Their primary goal in social interactions is often to achieve intimacy. However, it is important to note that sexual behavior can vary from person to person, and that intimacy, like eating, is a natural part of life. A complete lack of interest in intimacy or decreased desire can also indicate a health or psychological problem. The key to a balanced life is distinguishing between healthy intimacy and destructive addiction.
